LogicMark Inc. (NASDAQ: LGMK) has launched Aster, an app and emergency button system that transforms smartphones into personal safety devices, responding to Gallup data showing 40% of Americans fear walking alone at night—the highest level in three decades. The global personal security apps market is projected to reach $2.45 billion by 2032, growing at a CAGR of 14% from 2024 to 2032, positioning Aster in an expanding industry. Chia-Lin Simmons, CEO of LogicMark, stated the company aims to revolutionize personal safety technology, which she described as static and antiquated, by creating a universal solution for all ages.
Aster offers four ways to seek help: an emergency button, a home screen slider for quick access to emergency services, a Hold Until Safe button, and a Follow-Me feature for scheduled alerts and check-ins. The system includes a small Bluetooth emergency button, similar in size to an AirTag, that can be attached to personal items, allowing users to call for help without unlocking their phone or removing it from a pocket or bag. This feature provides an additional security layer in potentially dangerous situations, making it suitable for diverse users from college students to active seniors.
The app's Hold Until Safe button arms the device, requiring a PIN to cancel if there's no threat; if not canceled, emergency services are alerted and dispatched to the phone's GPS location, while designated followers receive an SMS message with a link to the user's location via https://www.logicmark.com. Aster's Follow-Me feature allows users to schedule events with automatic check-ins, and if a user fails to check in, the Aster monitoring service initiates contact, offering a proactive safety approach for solo activities or those with health concerns. The system connects users with a trusted circle of friends, family, or neighbors, creating a virtual safety net that may reduce anxiety and increase peace of mind in various scenarios, such as walking on quiet streets or hosting open houses alone.
This launch addresses Gallup findings that over 30% of people avoid visiting cities and outdoor wellness activities due to safety concerns, particularly among young women. By providing a comprehensive safety solution, Aster aims to empower users to maintain lifestyles without compromising personal security. As personal safety concerns evolve, solutions like Aster could play a crucial role in meeting protection demands across age groups and lifestyles, potentially offering peace of mind and independence in daily navigation of an increasingly complex world.
