ADAP Advocacy Launches Digital Commercial to Push for 340B Drug Pricing Program Reform

ADAP Advocacy has released a new digital commercial as part of its ongoing 340B Project, reinforcing the message of its policy paper published earlier this year, "340B PROGRAM: The Glue That Should Hold Our Healthcare System Together." The commercial, which will air across numerous digital and social platforms, argues that the 340B Drug Pricing Program requires stronger accountability and transparency guardrails to ensure it serves its intended beneficiaries: patients. The 340B Program is a federal initiative that allows certain healthcare providers, known as covered entities, to purchase outpatient drugs at discounted prices from manufacturers. It is designed to stretch scarce federal resources and expand access to affordable healthcare for vulnerable populations.

According to ADAP Advocacy, few areas in the healthcare ecosystem escape the program's impact, including as a backbone for services such as HIV care. However, the organization contends that a program of this size, magnitude, and importance cannot be entrusted to good faith alone. The commercial continues the group's 340B Too Big To Fail national advocacy campaign, which highlights hospitals' declining charity, rising healthcare executive compensation, and exploding patient medical debt, among other issues.

Brandon M. Macsata, CEO of ADAP Advocacy, summarized: "The debate surrounding whether to reform the 340B Program has largely been settled, thanks to the growing chorus recognizing the program isn't living up to the legislative intent. For patients, it is failing to deliver on its promise of expanding affordable healthcare, as shown by the growing medical debt crisis in this country, much of it owed to hospitals. Our new digital commercial moves the debate forward as Congress debates 340B legislation." The commercial is available online at https://tinyurl.com/bdea39d2.

The implications of this advocacy push are significant for patients, providers, and the broader healthcare industry. As Congress considers 340B legislation, ADAP Advocacy's campaign aims to elevate patient voices and expose what it describes as a disconnect between the program's original intent and its current outcomes. For people living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions, any changes to the 340B Program could affect the availability and affordability of critical medications and services. The organization's mission is to promote and enhance the AIDS Drug Assistance Programs (ADAPs) and improve access to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS. ADAP Advocacy works with advocates, community members, health care providers, government officials, patients, pharmaceutical companies, and other stakeholders to raise awareness, offer patient education programs, and foster greater community collaboration.
