Avatar Medical Secures CE Marking for Glasses-Free 3D Medical Imaging Software

Avatar Medical, a Paris-based medical imaging company founded in 2020, announced on October 8, 2026, at the Journées francophones de radiologie (JFR 2026) that it has obtained CE marking for Avatar Medical Vision, its software platform that provides instant 3D visualization of medical images. This marks the first CE-marked software compatible with a glasses-free 3D medical screen, allowing surgeons and patients to benefit from depth perception without wearing a headset. The full announcement, including downloadable images and bios, can be viewed click here.

The CE marking paves the way for commercialization of Avatar Medical Vision's glasses-free 3D visualization features in Europe. According to the company, this approach eliminates the need for headsets, cables, and sometimes temperamental hardware, making it better suited for daily clinical practice from consultation to surgical planning. The software instantly transforms CT and MRI scans into interactive, realistic 3D visualizations without the need for segmentation, giving clinicians a more intuitive way to understand each patient's specific anatomy.

This milestone builds on an initial CE marking obtained in 2025 for Avatar Medical Vision. With regulatory authorizations now secured in both Europe and the United States, Avatar Medical has a solid foundation to expand its deployment across two major healthcare markets. The company collaborates with more than 20 hospitals in the United States and Europe, and its technology is FDA-cleared and CE-marked.

For healthcare providers, the elimination of headsets could reduce workflow friction and improve infection control, as there is no headset to clean. For patients, the ability to see their own anatomy in 3D during consultations may enhance understanding and communication. The technology supports surgical planning across several specialties, strengthening two key moments in the care pathway: consultation and surgical planning.

Avatar Medical's ambition extends from consultation to surgical planning and the operating room, aiming to make visual intelligence accessible wherever critical surgical decisions are made. The company was born from research conducted at Institut Curie and Institut Pasteur. More information is available at avatarmedical.ai, and the company's press kit can be accessed Avatar Medical's press kit.

The news was distributed by Reportable, Inc. For the health industry, this approval signals a step toward more intuitive surgical planning tools that could become standard in European hospitals. As Avatar Medical expands, competitors may accelerate development of similar glasses-free 3D solutions, potentially driving down costs and increasing adoption. The integration of advanced visualization into routine care could ultimately improve surgical outcomes and patient engagement, though widespread impact will depend on hospital adoption and training.
