RHON-KLINIKUM AG has reported a stable business performance for the first half of 2026, with consolidated revenue reaching EUR 863.6 million, a slight increase from EUR 833.5 million in the same period last year. EBITDA rose to EUR 57.0 million from EUR 46.7 million, and consolidated profit more than doubled to EUR 22.5 million from EUR 14.7 million. The company treated 513,700 patients in the first six months, a 9% increase compared to 471,295 in H1 2025.
The results were influenced by immediate transformation costs, which were established to offset higher personnel and material costs from previous years. Despite these costs, the company continues to invest in expanding regional healthcare networks, which executives believe are essential for the future of healthcare delivery.
Dr. Gunther K. Weiß, member of the Board of Management, emphasized the importance of breaking down rigid sectoral boundaries in healthcare. "Regional networks form a vital and essential part of any future healthcare system. Rigid sectoral boundaries make it more difficult to provide patients with the care they need and saddle our healthcare system with unnecessary costs," he said. He added that collaboration among general practitioners, specialists, medical facilities, nurses, and therapists is crucial for pooling resources efficiently, especially in rural areas.
In Hesse, the company has formed a strategic partnership between Universitätsklinikum Marburg and Lungenfachklinik Immenhausen to improve care for lung patients. In Brandenburg, the newly opened child protection emergency service at the Frankfurt (Oder) site has strengthened the regional network through cooperation agreements with the City of Frankfurt (Oder) and the District of Oder-Spree, ensuring coordinated help for affected children and adolescents.
However, the company faces significant challenges from recent legislative changes. Dr. Stefan Stranz, also on the Board of Management, criticized the Statutory Health Insurance Contribution Rate Stabilization Act, stating, "Instead of reducing bureaucracy and refocusing on patient care, the reform saddles already overburdened hospitals with even more documentation requirements, excessive budget cuts, and financial risks."
The Hospital Reform Adjustment Act (KHAG), which came into force in April 2026, and the SHI Contribution Rate Stabilisation Act (GKV-BStabG), adopted by the German Federal Parliament in July 2026, aim to enhance quality and efficiency but are expected to increase financial pressure on hospitals in the short term.
Looking ahead, RHON-KLINIKUM AG forecasts revenues of EUR 1.7 billion for 2026, with a variance of plus or minus 5%. EBITDA is expected to be between EUR 110 million and EUR 125 million. The company also expects moderate improvements in patient numbers and cost weights.
However, the forecast is subject to uncertainties due to ongoing regulatory changes, global crises, and economic impacts such as higher prices and supply bottlenecks. The company's interim report is available on its website.
The company's strategic focus on regional networks and its response to regulatory pressures will be critical for its performance in the second half of the year, as it navigates the evolving healthcare landscape in Germany.
