(Nasdaq: SSII) announced the successful completion of a long-distance cross-border telesurgery spanning more than 4,500 miles, from a surgeon in Perth, Australia to a patient in Indore, India. The procedure, a robotic gastrojejunostomy, was performed on May 2, 2026, by Dr. Mohit Bhandari, President of IRCAD India, during the Royal Australian College of Surgeons Annual Scientific Congress.
The surgery utilized the company's SSi Mantra surgical robotic system and the SSi MantrAsana tele-surgeon console, a compact, chair-based version of the standard surgeon command center designed for portability and remote procedures. The SSi MantrAsana enables real-time remote operations through ultra-low latency connectivity, high-definition visualization, and precise instrument control, according to the company.
This demonstration underscores the growing potential of telesurgery to transform healthcare delivery by allowing surgeons to operate on patients thousands of miles away.
