VERAXA Biotech AG (NASDAQ: VRXA) has released new in vitro proof-of-concept data for its BiTAC-ADC technology platform, which is designed to improve the precision of cancer treatment by restricting the activation of therapeutic agents to the tumor microenvironment. The company reported that BiTAC-ADCs demonstrated the ability to distinguish between breast cancer and healthy cells and achieved dose-dependent killing of 3D tumor cell spheroids while minimizing toxicity through the use of separately delivered, systemically inactive precursor components.
These findings further validate the potential of the BiTAC-ADC platform and complement VERAXA's BiTAC-TCE technology, providing the company with two differentiated cancer therapy platforms that may be applicable across multiple solid tumor indications. Management plans to discuss partnering opportunities for both platforms at the BIO International Convention in San Diego from June 22-25, 2026.
The BiTAC-ADC platform represents a novel approach to antibody-drug conjugates (ADCs), a class of cancer therapies that deliver potent toxins directly to tumor cells. Traditional ADCs, while effective, can cause off-target toxicity because the toxin is always active once administered. VERAXA's technology addresses this by using two separate components that only combine and become active in the tumor microenvironment, potentially reducing side effects.
According to the company, the in vitro studies used breast cancer cell lines and healthy cells to test selectivity. The BiTAC-ADCs showed significant killing of cancer cells in 3D spheroid models, which better mimic solid tumors, while leaving healthy cells largely unaffected. This selectivity is a key advantage over conventional ADCs.
VERAXA was founded on scientific breakthroughs made at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL), a world-renowned institution known for pioneering life science research and cutting-edge technology. The company is building a pipeline of antibody-based therapeutics, including bispecific T cell engagers and bispecific ADCs, guided by quality-by-design principles.
