The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) announced that the fifth edition of International Healthcare Week will be held from 11 to 31 May, featuring two flagship events: the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair. These events aim to highlight Hong Kong's role as a medical technology and investment hub, leveraging its status as an international financial centre and bridge between mainland China and the world.
The ASGH, jointly organized by the HKSAR government and the HKTDC, will take place on 11 and 12 May at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The Medical Fair, organized by the HKTDC and co-organized by the Hong Kong MedTech Association, will run from 11 to 13 May. Together, they provide a comprehensive platform covering technology R&D, investment matching, medical equipment manufacturing, and services.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized that the events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, which prioritizes health development. "The medical and healthcare landscape is undergoing a profound and rapid transformation," she said, noting that Hong Kong serves as an ideal platform for scientific excellence, strategic investment, and international trade. The events focus on high-growth areas such as biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, the silver economy, and modernization of traditional Chinese medicine.
The ASGH, themed "Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs," will feature a prestigious speaker lineup, including 2013 Nobel Prize Laureate in Chemistry, Prof Michael Levitt. The opening session will include remarks by HKTDC Chairman Prof Frederick S Ma, HKSAR Chief Executive John Lee, and Prof Zeng Yixin, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission. Plenary sessions will address pandemic preparedness and cross-sector collaboration to commercialize research outcomes. A dedicated session on AI in healthcare will explore how artificial intelligence is powering real-world healthcare revolutions.
The Medical Fair, themed "Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience," will gather around 300 exhibitors from 10 countries and regions, including new participants from Macao, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Vietnam, and the United States. The fair features three key categories: MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare. Highlights include a smart health wearable watch integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an augmented reality surgical platform for orthopaedic surgeons, and a world-first smart knee brace that uses AI for rehabilitation monitoring.
Both events will adopt the "EXHIBITION+" hybrid model, with online business matching via the Click2Match platform from 4 to 20 May. More than 50 themed forums and seminars will provide insights into market trends, including sessions on mental health innovation and gerontechnology demand.
The International Healthcare Week, running from 11 to 31 May, includes 17 healthcare-related conferences and networking activities, aiming to promote innovation and investment exchange in the Asian healthcare industry and solidify Hong Kong's development as a regional medical innovation hub.
